Lane O'Brien was born in 1913 in St. Louis, MO. O’Brien received his D.D.S. degree from the Washington University School of Dentistry in 1935. During the war, he served with the 21st General Hospital in Europe and was awarded a Bronze Star, while climbing to the rank of Major. At the end of the war, O’ Brien was able to capture six Hermann Göring’s Goblets as souvenirs and ship them home to the states. However, only one was left intact after the journey home (showcased), the rest were broken. The Göring family arms crest can be seen cut and faceted into the crystal glass. This last Goblet was directly purchased from the family of Maj. O’Brien.
After the war he continued his dental practice, teaching at Washington University School of Dentistry. O’Brien became a nationally recognized clinician and researcher in the treatment of facial birth defects and oral cancer rehabilitation, a feat that made him very proud. Lane passed away in 1992, at the age of 79. Thank you service Major.
